We had another good day running around the Dingle peninsula. Bright and early we visited one of the earliest Christian churches in Ireland.
GALLARUS ORATORY
Built around the 7th or8th century this Oratory resembles an inverted boat. This is the only perfect remaining example of a number of small corbel-built Oratories on a rectangular plan. The outward inclination of the bed joints of the stonework directs the rain to the outside. There are two openings, the western doorway and the eastern window. The doorway has a double lintel, above which project twwo stones each pierced with a round hole; these may have served for the attachment of a door. The window is round-headed and splays more widely towards the inside. An inward sagging has taken place in the upper parts of both sides of the building midway along its length.

The walk to and from the oratory was lovely
Then we visited the town of Dingle. Dingle is home to some of the best ice cream in Ireland and one of the best flavors of ice cream from Dingle is one made with Dingle's own gin. Fist thing we did after getting off the bus was to rush to a recommended ice cream shop for a cone. Then there was time to explore and perhaps do a bit of shopping.

I quickly grew tired of the pace of the window shoppers I was hanging out with and dashed off on my own for a couple hours.
We rode back to the hostel, went out for dinner one last time to the local pub and got up the next morning ready for an early start to a long day which started with simply saying goodbye to Cloghane, a lovely, quiet village that had been our home base for several days.
I'd managed to make a small sketch or two from Cloghane.
Next week, off for another adventure!

Yeah, I'll be doing a fair amount of running around again after this diary posts, so I may not be around much the next couple of days, but I will try to make a point of hanging out a bit and surely I'll have some time during the wee hours into Saturday morning for stalking.
