Friend, Can You Stop A Moment And Help A Fellow Kossack Who's Brave And Never Complains?

Hello, everyone. I’m doing a fundraising diary for avalonbear, who was badly injured in a motorcycle accident on October 18. He’s made a small amount of noise about it here, but he’s shy about asking for what he needs. He’s one of the most self-effacing and modest people I’ve ever spoken to. Here is how he understated the accident.

My injuries were not life-threatening. But the impact did cause me to have several injuries. I have a broken leg, a torn rotator cuff, two sprained wrist, a large cut above my right eye “that took 14 stitches”, several spots of road rash, a concussion and a torn MCL in my right knee. So far not counting that first visit to a local trauma center I have had several doctor visits and went threw surgery upon my leg and ankle to repair and stabilize where the muscles/ ligaments were torn from my leg and ankle .I now have a metal plate and several screws in my right ankle and foot. I have had more test and X-rays then I want to count with the last ones just two days ago ( two MRI’s).

Oh, no, nothing life threatening about any of that. Sounds like a stroll through the park, right?

Bear in mind that our fellow kossack has other, chronic, ailments, with his heart and his lungs. He also subsists on a disability check. My friends, I can tell you up close and personal what it is to have chronic ailments and have to live on a disability check. It is very very hard. You barely make it each month, there’s no slack. Therefore, when a crisis arrives, you don’t have any reserve and you go from the frying pan right into the fire.

That’s where avalonbear is and he’s not asking for much help to get him back into the frying pan, or hopefully, to a somewhat cooler corner of the stove. His most pressing worry is keeping the utilities paid. He and his wife live in Indiana and that’s a state where winter can be intense. He told me they were snowed in for three weeks one time. Avalonbear needs to get wood in for the stove because that keeps the gas bills down a lot, he tells me. He and Alexandra would like to get some food items stocked up, and the copays on his meds are now $175 month. That’s a drag for anybody, and it’s a big chunk out of a disability check, I can tell you that. I couldn’t do it. The unexpected expense from this accident, transportation expenses to various doctors and specialists, co-pays on new meds, new doctors, have thrown their tight budget into a dither.

His goal is modest. He’s only looking for $2,400, and please believe me, I had to coax the figure out of him after we went over the monthly expenses and the new expenses from the accident. He’s being extremely understated in what he’s asking for because that’s who he is. Originally, he just wanted the utilities and I said, “Let’s look at the big picture and just keep you guys even with the game. There’s a hell of a lot of sudden and ongoing expense here and you’re in pain on top of it.”

Avalonbear doesn’t like to ask for money and hey, it is hard. He doesn’t want to impose on anybody’s generosity, their good nature, none of it. The man wouldn’t be asking for anything if he didn’t desperately need it. He’s that kind of a stand up guy.

Avalonbear and his wife, Alexandra, have been kossacks for 12 years. They’re good people.  PayPal is theladyherself1971@yahoo.com.

I sincerely hope that we can help our friend and fellow kossack through this time of hardship. If you can spare anything, please contribute. Christmas is right around the corner and if our friends can just be warm and have the lights on, internet connected, medication in the cabinet and some food in the larder, they’ll have a very Merry Christmas.

Thank you.
