By now everyone should know that the right wing propaganda machine, the Republican fascists in congress, and the Trump regime are all going after Mueller in a big way. It’s not clear if they’re trying to discredit Mueller or if they’re going to outright fire him. If they fire him and the Republicans don’t take immediate action, this will be the biggest attack on our democracy since WWII or maybe even the civil war.

Our democratic republic is in far more danger than it was even a few weeks ago.

Only recently, it was widely assumed that if Trump fired Mueller, many Republicans would rise up to defend our institutions. Now, many in the party are laying the groundwork for justifying a coverup. This is a recipe for lawlessness.
We also assumed that Mueller’s findings would be respected because of his deserved reputation for fairness and independence. Just last May, Newt Gingrich called him a “superb choice to be special counsel” and praised his “honesty and integrity.” Now, pro-Trump politicians feel free to contradict anything they said in the past and to dismiss what they once saw as legitimate authority if those who hold it threaten their power. This is a recipe for autocracy.

The storm is not yet upon us, but the dark clouds are already visible on the horizon. Ever since the guilty plea from former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn on Dec. 1, Trump and his enablers have been throwing a hissy-fit at the FBI, the “Justice” Department (the sarcastic quote marks are the president’s own), and the special counsel’s office by seizing on “evidence” that all three are biased against him.

Naturally, the most fervent Trumpkins have gone even farther than Trump himself; in fact, they are said to be frustrated by the “restraint” he has shown in his war against Mueller. Listen to what the talking heads at state TV, aka Fox News, are saying. Sean Hannity callsMueller “a disgrace to the American justice system” and “the head of the snake.” Jeanine Piro, sounding very much like a budding commissar, claims: “There is a cleansing needed in the FBI and the Department of Justice. It needs to be cleansed of individuals who should not just be fired, but who need to be taken out in handcuffs.” Greg Jarrett compares the FBI to the KGB, as if the G-men were running gulags in Alaska: “I think we now know that the Mueller investigation is illegitimate and corrupt,” he says . “And Mueller has been using the FBI as a political weapon. And the FBI has become America’s secret police. Secret surveillance, wiretapping, intimidation, harassment and threats. It’s like the old KGB that comes for you in the dark of the night banging through your door.”

But given how unfounded and outrageous the attacks are, it is striking and dismaying how few Republicans are rushing to defend Mueller and his team. That is an ominous sign of what will happen if and when Trump tries to fire the special counsel. The GOP has made clear that it is committed not to the rule of law but to the rule of Trump.
And there are many others that are sounding the alarm. The right wing propaganda machine and the Republican fascists are screaming at the top of their lungs to fire Mueller. What has been the response from the Democrats and the Resistance? Crickets. We are not prepared and we don’t have a plan.
What can we do? The first thing we can do is call our Democratic congresspeople and demand that they come out today and make a public statement that “firing Mueller is an impeachable offense”! Yes I know the Republicans are not going to impeach their dear leader, so no need to repeat that. But there are powerful political reasons for the Democrats to come out NOW and say firing Mueller is an impeachable offense. It’s going to put pressure on some Republicans (Collins, Flake...) to actually consider impeachment, it’s going to fire up the base, it’s going to send a signal to the Trump regime that Democrats are going to come at them with the courts, and it’s going to be a bargaining chip to get Republicans in the Senate to maybe hire Mueller to continue the investigation… So call your Democratic Reps!
When/if Trump fires Mueller, don’t be fooled by the Republican pearl clutching as they express outrage and demand certain committees investigate the firing. Don’t be fooled and especially don’t fall for their demand that we wait for the committees to finish their investigation into the firing. Earlier this year many of us were screaming at the top of our lungs that we needed an INDEPENDENT committee to investigate the Trump Russia connection, but some Democrats, who need to have their butts chewed, expressed “confidence in bipartisanship” that the Senate and House committees could do the job, BS! The house intelligence committee investigation is all but dead, the Senate Judicial committee, led by comrade Grassley, is starting to distract and turn on Mueller, and all the committees won’t let Democrats call the witnesses they want, won’t bring witnesses under subpoena, won’t call out witnesses for contempt when they make BS claims that they have Lawyer/client privilege because they saw a lawyer walk by the door a couple of days ago.
Save your sick and vacation time in case you need it, be prepared to take to the streets, to overflow congressional offices and get very loud, to grab attention from local and national media…
National people of prominence are sounding alarms and we need to be ready. Call that Dem rep and get them to say firing Mueller is an impeachable offense. We have to match the fascists in our energy and resolve. This is about to get real.
