It’s winter in Chicago. With the temperature of 22 the cold must be intense and with the wind chill factor, it just plain hurts to be outside.
As many of you know, I live in a subsidized building where rent is based on ability to pay. It is still a third of your income and it takes a big bite out of a person’s income.
Today I rode the elevator up with an older veteran. He was dressed in a couple of layers of shirts with the flannel shirt on top. That’s what he wore outside to get groceries. I also noticed his pants were frayed badly at the bottom as well.
He has no coat.
I have asked before and I am asking now: Will one of you please, please send me a long parka for this man? I say long because he said in my response to asking how cold it was outside that one would need a long coat for this winter. He was still shivering after a few minutes inside the building.
No one should be so cold. I know he’s a vet and deserves a lot more than a coat but that is all I can get for him. I know the generosity of the folks on this site and I thank you in advance for your generosity. Many thanks.
